About
Hi there!
I’m Kristen from Boston by way of Mississippi, now living in Erie, PA. I’ve done some version of yarn craft for almost as long as I can remember (okay, realistically, probably since age 10-ish), and found the most enjoyment out of knitting, followed by cross-stitching and crochet. I love the challenge of a new pattern and making custom pieces unique to each recipient. Besides crafting, I’m also a spouse, a psychology researcher, a pet mom, an ordained minister, and a lover of animals - especially peacocks and phoenixes! Thanks for stopping by and I can't wait to collaborate on a creation with you.
Why the phoenix?
In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina wrecked the US Gulf Coast. I had family evacuated to Houston, friends without power for weeks, and places I grew up visiting (I lived in Mississippi until 2003) were mere memories. After the storm, a Gulf Coast-based jeweler created the Katrina Phoenix pendant. This mythical bird, full of power and energy to thrive through the destruction it endures and rise from the ashes and aftermath of trauma, became a comforting symbol for me that I have returned to regularly. In launching my own handmade business, I know there will be ups and downs, successes and challenges, and definitely the need to scrap something and start over. But resiliency and strength are key to moving forward.
Why the peacock?
While I can pinpoint when my obsession with phoenixes began, I can’t identify when my love of peacocks started. I remember growing up, my local zoo had free range peacocks and a house I regularly drove by had several too. They were loud and gorgeous and not to be messed with. Their feathers have iridescent coloring, and no other bird looks has their unique physicality!
